CDMX Recap

Prepare to be sick of me

CDMX Recap

I’m sure by this point you’ve been inundated with all my Mexico City posts, but if you’re craving more this newsletter is for you!! If you’re tired of looking/listening/watching content about Mexico City, this is awkward.

In today’s newsletter I’ve got

I’d also like to give a shoutout to the New York Times for sending this newsletter out after we got back from Mexico. So thankful they knew we were traveling and didn’t want to ruin our trip with a lil anxiety!! thanks besties <3

Anyway… onto the good stuff!

My top recs for food:

  • Rosetta Bakery Guava Roll

    • if you’ve spoken to anyone about food in CDMX you’ve heard about this pastry & it STILL lives up to the hype. that’s saying something.

    • the Guava Roll is like croissant dough meets cheese danish meets Guava jam. it was amazing

    • all the other pastries were delish too, the line was long but moved quickly

      • this is definitely a can’t miss stop

      • in the summer they serve soft serve in a croissant cone… i’m so pissed our timing was off for that

  • Taqueria El Flaco

    • This place is a whole in the wall but amazing!!!

    • they cook their tacos for hours and mix mashed potatoes into the filling. it’s decadent & comforting but one taco hits the spot perfectly - I had the adobo but they also have vegetarian friendly options like beans and potatoes

      • each taco costs about 5.50 MXP (about 42 cents USD)

      • all the tacos we ate were under $2, i was in disbelief

    • visual taco roundup here in case you’re curious

  • Los Cocuyos

  • Rosa Negra

    • We didn’t make it to Contramar for the tuna tostada which I heard is amazing, but the tuna tostada at Rosa Negra was sooo delicious. Definitely a more under the radar option & much easier to get a reservation

    • the guac here is also sooooo good - the avocados and limes were infinitely better than any I’ve had in the US

  • we also loved Hanky Panky - ranked #22 on the World’s Best 50 Bars list

My top recs for activities:

  • THIS mezcal mixology class

    • we loved this - it was very well thought out & curated

    • also a fun way to meet other tourists and make friends

  • Taco Walking Tour - this is a fun way to break up dinner/lunch reservations

    • we loved our guide Fernanda & would highly recommend!

  • E-Bike Tour of the City

    • this is the perfect way to see a lot within a short amount of time

    • it ended up being a private tour which was amazing! Our guide was so nice & knowledgable - loved getting to experience the city through his perspective as a local

      • we talked a lot about how dogs are a HUGE part of the culture there - literally everyone has one & you can’t walk around the city without seeing people walk at least four at a time

  • An early morning tour of the pyramids is the way to go - beat the crowds & the heat

My top recs for everything else:

  • the altitude is no joke… it’s 7350ft above sea level

    • bring lots of electrolytes and drink tons of (bottled) water

  • pack Pepto Bismol and Tums

    • I saw someone Uber Eats Pepto Bismol and Pedialyte to our hotel - you do not want to be in that situation

  • pull out MXP at the airport ATM so you’re ready to go - there are tons of street vendors and street tacos that only take cash & you don’t want to miss out

  • we stayed at The Sofitel which was so lovely & felt very safe - highly recommend

That’s all for now!

Xoxo, Em
