May Madness

Like March Madness but not

May Madness

This summer I’m going to be all over the place.. much like this edition of the newsletter. May is almost over, but it’s already been a month of many, many good eats. Let’s get into it.

Za’atar Labneh Morning Bun from Cafe Librae

Rezdora

This place is special. Everything from the cocktail menu to the service to the gelato flavors are curated to perfection. We followed the waiter’s recommendations which proved to be a very good decision. Two of his suggestions - the strozzapreti and the steak - were highlights of the meal and totally things I would have skipped over otherwise.

Uovo Ravioli di Nino Bergese

Bond Street

A classic for a reason. The food here is consistently good, with classics and modern twists and the vibe is always fun. The appetizers are always my favorite part, but who doesn’t love spicy tuna crispy rice, tuna tartes and yellowtail hamachi <3

Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice

Cecconi’s Dumbo

We randomly stumbled in here while exploring Dumbo and the vibes were amazing. The restaurant is beautiful, the outdoor seating/view is perfect and the few dishes we tried were delicious. You can’t go wrong with oven fired pizza.. but the grilled octopus was also 10/10

  • If I had to describe in two words: Crowd Pleaser

Margherita Pizza & Aperol Spritz

Ume

I wrote about Ume in my first newsletter — it’s an experience. It’s a prix fix sushi set with 12 pieces of artfully constructed, fresh sushi served with nori sheets and rice alongside 9 unbelievable, distinct salts and spices. It’s like a choose your own adventure, gourmet sushi set up.

Bubby’s

I’ve been dying to try Bubby’s but never had the opportunity, so we went for Mother’s Day brunch. The pancakes were light and fluffy - definitely recommend pairing with the blueberry compote. The bacon was also delicious and felt like a splurge. I’m not sure if it’s worth waiting in a crazy line for, but it was a good mother’s day option.

Pancake with Blueberry compote

Librae Bakery

So glad I finally got around to trying this place. Their website put it best “a labor of love from every corner to every layer of croissant.” The Za’atar Labneh Morning Bun was definitely the highlight, but the Jerusalem bagel was also amazing — like the best salty, sesame bagel reimagined with a spicy, Labneh dip that balances together perfectly.

  • If I had to describe in two words: Eclectic Familiarity

Jerusalem Bagel with Labneh Dip

Duryea’s

This place is everything good about summer bottled up and served chilled next to a mountain of housemade potato chips (yes their potato chips are insane). Duryea’s is really the type of place that makes you long for your next visit before you even leave. I’ll definitely be coming back here this summer with a big group.
