48 Hours

Welcome to the second edition of the Currently Craving Newsletter. In this newsletter, I’ll be sharing my idea of the perfect 48 hour NYC foodie itinerary — not for the faint of heart or appetite.

This is a dream itinerary for anyone visiting the city trying to get the most out of each bite and every sip. The first half is focused on the West Village and the second half is centered around the Lower East Side. Pretty much everything is walk-in only, but I’ve listed some of my go to places that do take reservations at the bottom.

Reminder: if you missed the first newsletter, you can check it out here.

First 24 hours in the West Village

Breakfast: Buvette or Salt’s Cure

Both are walk-in only, so try to get there on the earlier side if you’re with a bigger group. Go to Buvette for a decadent french breakfast or try Salt’s Cure for trendy oatmeal pancakes. Both restaurants are in amazing locations and will position you in a super cute neighborhood to walk through after.

Brunch at Buvette

Coffee Rec (arguably one of the most important parts of the itinerary): The Elk

Honey Cinnamon latte with almond milk is my absolute favorite <3

Lunch: Johns of Bleeker

Also walk-in only, John’s is a west village institution. If you’re spending a few days in the city you can’t leave without eating a slice of pizza & this is one of the best.

Happy Hour: Il Sogno Toscano for an Aperol Spritz

This little Italian market is the perfect afternoon spot, especially when the weather is nice. Sit on the sidewalk “patio” tables with an aperol spritz and cheese board for people watching and vibes. If the timing is right, you can stroll down to the west side highway after to catch the sunset.

Dinner: Sugarfish

No reservations again (sorry) but this is seriously the most delicious sushi at an amazing price for NYC. Tuna Sashimi with ponzu & chives and salmon sushi with toasted sesame seeds have my heart. Also love their house sake.

Sugarfish “Trust Me Omakase” is some of the best sushi in the city

Day 2 LES focused

Coffee: Cafe Lyria - the Lyria is a must order, but if you’re in the mood to be more adventurous and like a dark roast try the Freddo Cappuccino

Breakfast: Tompkins Square Bagels

Best bfast sandwich in the city. Perfect if you’ve had a long night or an early morning and need to recover. There’s always a long line, but it’s so worth it in my opinion. These bagels are huge, and will probably leave you feeling pretty full for the rest of the day.

Exciting news: the new union square location is officially open!!

egg & cheese on a sesame bagel from Tompkins Square

Snack: But just in case you’re not completely full… stop by La Cabra for their iconic Cardamom Bun or Levain for a cookie as a mid afternoon pick me up.

Dinner: Thursday Kitchen

End your curated Currently Craving  48 hours with my personal fave. Order the truffle edamame dumplings, chicken, mac n cheese and steak to share for the table. Don’t leave nyc without trying this place, it never disappoints!!

Places that ~actually~ take reservations: Sushi by M, Soothr, Malaparte, Rubirosa, Lil Frankies, Nami Nori, Emmett’s on Grove

Current Craves - Food Edition

  • Making my own version of Lil Frankie’s Spaghetti Limone at home. I’m thinking this might be the first recipe in my new series of recreating iconic nyc dishes at home. Requests are welcome 🙂

  • Sushi 35 West - best takeout sushi in the city

    • Michelin star quality sushi basically operating out of a ghost kitchen on 35th and 8th - perfect to pick up or get delivered

  • Culture Yogurt - anyone who knows me knows that I’m obsessed and go at least 3x a week

  • Half Baked Harvest’s cook book is on major sale - I grabbed a copy & super excited to try some new recipes. I already went through and bookmarked a ton of things to try.

That’s all for now. See you in the next newsletter!
